That’s what we are going to practice in this audio lesson. Explanation of Dosing Insulin in Spanish
Y ahora vamos a hablar de cómo determinar la dosis de insulina.
And now we are going to talk about how to determine the dose of insulin.
Hay que aplicarse la insulina lispro de cinco a diez minutos antes de comer, y no esperar más de 15 minutos para comer.
You must give yourself lispro insulin 5 to 10 minutes before eating and you must not wait more than 15 minutes to eat.
Esta insulina es de acción rápida y podría bajar el nivel de azúcar demasiado si usted no come dentro de los 15 minutos después de aplicársela.
This insulin is fast-acting and it could lower your sugar level too much if you do not eat within 15 minutes after you inject it.

Aquí el doctor ha escrito la dosis de insulina lispro que debe tomar antes de cada comida.
Here the doctor has written the dose of lispro insulin that you should take before each meal.
Y si su nivel de azúcar es más de 140, ajuste la dosis según esta escala.
And if your sugar level is more than 140, adjust the dose according to this scale.
Por ejemplo, según esta escala, si su nivel de azúcar es de 200 antes de desayunar, usted va a añadir 4 unidades a la dosis de 10 unidades, para que se aplique un total de 14 unidades.
For example, according to this scale, if your sugar level is 200 before you have breakfast, you should add 4 units to the 10 unit dose so that you give yourself 14 units.

Veamos otro ejemplo. Digamos que su nivel de azúcar antes de almorzar es de 240. ¿Qué dosis de insulina se va a aplicar?
Let’s look at another example. Let’s say your sugar level before lunch is 240. What dose of insulin would you give yourself?
A ver, dice aquí que debo aplicarme 12 unidades antes de almorzar. Y si mi nivel de azúcar es elevado, según esta escala, necesito añadir 6 unidades a la dosis de 12 unidades para que me aplique 18 unidades en total.
Let’s see, it says here that I should give myself 12 units before lunch. And if my sugar level is elevated, according to this scale, I need to add 6 units so that I give myself a total of 16 units.
Muy bien. Y en comparación, la insulina glargina es fácil.
Very good. And in comparison, glargine insulin is easy.
Hay que tomar 30 unidades de insulina glargina en la mañana.
You should take 30 units of glargine insulin in the morning.
Y si sus niveles de azúcar en la mañana son más altos de los 140, debe añadir 2 unidades a la dosis cada 3 días.
And if your sugar levels in the morning are higher than 140, you should add 2 units to the dose every 3 days.
Por ejemplo si su nivel de azúcar en la mañana es más de los 140, durante 3 días seguidos, aumente la dosis a 32. Y siga así hasta que los niveles estén por debajo de los 140.
For example, if your sugar level in the morning is more than 140, for 3 consecutive days, increase your dose to 32. And continue like this until your levels are under 140.

Si tiene niveles por debajo de los 100, debe reducir su dosis de insulina a la mitad, y consultarlo con su doctor.
