Years ago, I wrote and recorded a series of diabetes dialogues with my friend María from Peru. Because this topic is so vital in primary care, I decided it was time for a full upgrade.  So I teamed up with my Spanish teacher from Mexico, Daniela Grave, to revamp and expand the series, adding in-depth lessons that break down all the key vocabulary and grammar.

✅ We just published the first updated lesson, where the doctor explains to Señora Sánchez that she has type II diabetes.

🗣️ In this dialogue, you’ll hear how the doctor clearly and compassionately discusses elevated glucose levels, family history, and lifestyle factors contributing to the diagnosis.

👩🏽‍⚕️ “Su nivel elevado de azúcar en la sangre indica que es muy probable que tenga diabetes también.”

Next week, we’ll publish the member-only lesson, where we break down this dialogue, master the key phrases, and review all the useful vocabulary and grammar.

✨ And that’s just the beginning! A new dialogue will drop every two weeks, followed by its member lesson the week after. Check out what’s to come!

🔬 What is Diabetes?

The doctor explains the role of insulin and how resistance to it causes sugar to build up in the blood. We also learn why diabetes often develops silently, without noticeable symptoms.

🧪 Monitoring & Management

From finger-stick testing with a glucometer to tracking glucose levels and diet, this lesson covers it all. You’ll hear practical language for daily diabetes management—and how to explain HbA1c and urine protein tests to your patients.

📊 Follow-Up & Motivation

In the final dialogue, the doctor reviews the patient’s progress, encourages continued weight loss and exercise, and reinforces goals like keeping the A1c level under 7.

🎧 Each lesson will include a full breakdown of the dialogue, phrase by phrase, to help you feel confident using this language in real clinical encounters.

💬 ¿Listos para hablar sobre la diabetes en español? Check out the first lesson, and stay tuned for more to come!

¡Hasta la próxima!
